Circa 2014, rapper ILCAGO introduced himself to the game with a hot track featuring King Louie and Vac'ea titled "Hakuna Matata." It was that track that put ILCAGO on the radar and showcased his ability to produce a banger, eventhough it was his first time picking up the mic. From there, the journey began.
The release of MOZART is ILCAGO"s freshman tape featuring a squad of chi town drillas like King Louie, Sasha Go Hard, Dreezy, and Mikey Dollaz. This project, in many ways is just scratching the surface of ILCAGO's grind and abilities as a producer and artist. Tracks like "Wolves," "No Love in the Chiraq," "Burning Bridges," and "Hakuna Matata," are amongst the top tracks that lend an idea of what we can expect from ILCAGO in the upcoming year. His humble character yet explicit storytelling abilities shows that he's the latest renegade to hit the soundwaves with a unique story to tell.
Since 2012, Chicago has become a mecca for some of the most influential artists in the industry. Artists such as Chance the Rapper, Kanye West, and Noname have all positioned themselves as leaders by putting their own take on signature Chicago sounds.
Recently, I caught up with Evie in between her set where she gave me the scoop on how she got into Djing and where she wants to see her newest project, Babes Only, grow to. Like anyone wanting to dive into a creative lane, she started a blog and eventually, began learning how to DJ firsthand from Smoko Ono, another prominent Chicago producer.
