YOU-C Exclusive Interview
Do You C Me was a 2 year long project that took artist You C on a journey of discovery as an artist. "This project is more for the weirdos, the outcasts....." His musical likes range from Future to Tyler the Creator and being a comic book purveyor and fan of late 90's WuTang —You C unites the odd, strange, and unique listener to lyrical bars and a mix of comical play.
Growing up in the mid nineties, in the suburbs, You C’s musical memories were not from classic Chicago artists like Twista, Do or Die, and Crucial Conflict —but from arguably one of the best rappers to live — Biggie Smalls.
“My earliest memories of hip hop is 97 when I first heard Hypnotize by Biggie. I was like two or three when that came out so I have a pre conceived notion of hip hop.” This pre conceived notion of hip hop stems from the artists of Chicago from his time like Ye, Common, and Lupe Fiasco who have spearheaded the experimental music trend in Chicago that we see today.
This year —You C plans to drop at least three projects and continue to collab with artists from his camp and support Chicago new school artists like Mikey Rocks, Alex Wiley, and Chance the Rapper.
